Depends on if I know what people want (I've had many bad presents in the past which I never really wanted or liked, (i.e. I once got some liqourice allsorts and I can't stand the sweets) so I prefer to get what I know people would like. Not only that, but it shows that you actually know something about them. Nothing says I don't care about you more than getting a present which a person doesn't like/want. I tend to rate it like this at the bottom, if people don't bother getting something then that's bad (unless they couldn't afford it), after that, is the stuff you don't like or want, then things like money, gift certficates, etc, then at the top is the stuff you want either because they know you well enough that they know the things you like or what you need. I don't like this time of year because of presents, as it sometimes puts a price tag on whether or not you care about people or if they care about you and having rubbish, "seclular" Christmas's in the past because of presents, I kind of hate the idea of giving and recieving presents. There are other things to look forward to, like snow, (if you're lucky enough to get it), decorations (as long as they are nice, sadly, a lot arent) and food.

On the other hand, being able to afford it is an issue too. This year, I'm having to wait for my bursary to come through, which is in December, so it'll probably be at the last minute if at all. (Plus, I don't have a clue what to get people this year, so it'll probably have to be money, or something!)
