Tomorrow we'll be visiting a dog rescue kennels in the hope that we can adopt one of the border collies that they have. Even if everything goes well, we will probably have to wait for a week or so (I really do need to get all the stuff ready for the dog's arrival.) There are two border collies, both males, at the kennels, an 18 month old and a 2 year old dog. It sounds like they were pets, rather then working dogs because I would have expected a working dog that is retired to be older (unless their training didn't work out, of course...)

It will be great to have a dog again after all this time. We did meet a local dog last week that was in need of a new home, but she had been mistreated by her previous owners and doesn't trust people, especially men and teenagers. Not good, since we have a lodger and my partner has a 16 year old son who is scared of dogs and she barked at us a lot - she did eventually calm down, but even then she was still very weary. I do hope that she finds a new home, though, because none of her problems are her fault - if it had just been us, then we might have given her a chance, but frightened dogs can be unpredictable and I don't want her biting anyone! (and you want to punch the idiots who made her frightened of people in the first place!).

Thanks to the current money problems more and more animals are being neglected, and so I think that the best thing that I can do is adopt a rescue dog, but I also have to be careful about them in terms of behaviour problems. Most things I don't mind dealing with, but aggression and fear is something that needs to be tackled by someone more experienced at dealing with dogs than me.
