Having visited the kennels a couple of times, we came away with a dog last week. He's a Border Collie cross. The full bred border collies which they had proved to be a bit of an handful, even walking them because they just wanted to run around all the time. One dog in particular I don't think that I would have been able to hold because he was much stronger than I expected. I hope he ends up with a good home, though. (He would probably be best off on a farm - that way, he would have an experienced handler to train him and he would have the freedom to burn off that energy which was obviously causing him to pull on the lead.
So we ended up with Jaffa instead.

So we ended up with Jaffa instead.

He's about 7 years old and is a nice sedate dog, very different from my old border collie Laddie who was a boisterous pain the but at times (but I still miss him...). I've not really had a chance to take him for a walk on my own yet because it has been too hot during the day, and I do hope to be able to avoid idiots like the guy with the big nasty Akita dog that went for him last night. What gets me about people like that is that they know that their dog has a problem but they still insist on not having them on a lead and it's still the fault of the dog that his on the lead if he or she gets attacked. Fortunately the thing was muzzled, but I had to pull it away from him because the so-called owner wouldn't get his dog under control. It was a good thing it was muzzled because the thing tried to bite me when I pulled it away. Forget training dogs - sometimes it's the frigging owners that need the training! We went on to a forum and that same morning a dog with the same description of the one that went for Jaffa had bit another dog in the face. Fortunately we don't live near the park where we walked him last night, so hopefully if we avoid going there we won't come across them again. The thing is there were also loads of little kids around as well, so it could have been worse and I'm just glad the brute didn't go for any of them. I've taken it a bit easy today because I've been feeling a bit stressed about it. I was hoping that my first entry about Jaffa would be more positive but I just needed to get that out of my system. Stupid dog owners who just have to have a dog to basically say "hey, look at me, I'm big and tough because I own a massive savage dog that will attack anything without provocation" which really translates to "but in fact, I'm really a pansy because I'm scared stiff of the thing and can't control it - it really controls me and I really need the dog to hide behind because I'm a big coward in truth..."
